The Feb 22 and Feb 29 gatherings were both essentially cancelled for illness.
The Feb 29th session proved productive, but we opted to change the course plan. Instead of following the previously prescribed readings as advised to us by a Biblical scholar, we are choosing to read the book from front to back moving forward. We had discussed all of Genesis 3 and Joshua 1. We'll likely review Joshua 1 when we come back around to it. Location: Due to the FAKE NEWS HOAX coronavirus, and also because it just might be easier, more productive and more fun, this week's session will be held online. You can join us by using Discord either on your web browser or through your phone. Here is the Discord server: https://discord.gg/XYac9WD Call me if you have any issues using it. I strongly suggest testing it before the time of the event. Progress: We're at Genesis 4. The pace continues to pick up. We talked about divine fallacies. Discussion items as we move forward: 1. "Why do many people believe that they can 'game' God, for example by living a life of sin and repenting on their deathbed to get into heaven?" 2. "How do we determine which parts of The Bible are literal and which are not?" 3. "Which parts of The Bible were divinely inspired by God, which were not? How can you tell?" 4. Etymological fallacy. 5. How to organize and manage the chat rooms. Readings for the near future: Genesis 4 - 10 Anyone is welcome to attend. Last edited by Publius; 03-15-2020 at 04:17 PM. |

Just so you're all aware, I am not going to update this thread any more for a while. The board is pretty dead, and the contact info is in this post. If anyone wants to check in with me before attending, please feel free to do so.
If the location or status of the group changes, I'll try to make another post. Anyone is welcome to attend. For anyone curious, we stopped the book club a while ago.
This thread is quite old, and Covid was a game-changer. Additionally, we struggled with the ability to move through the Bible based on significant and irreconcilable differences in reasoning. With practice, and vaccines, we're improving and may try again one day. |
